Trying to catch up...

Mom and I had a good trip heading to Seaside.. my sister Laurie and her husband Tom and my sister Florence and her daughter all came down on Friday, They arrived very late and very tired.

Jade Deb and the boys came down for the night on Sunday... they cooked awesome meals.. mom really enjoyed herself.. she was so happy to see them and the boys were all over her and loving on her. We had a great time. They headed to the beach and the carousel. the rest of us took a nap. Thank you for the awesome meals Jade and Deb.

I don't remember where this fit in... but Jade and Robert put up a great temporary fence for the puppies and they loved and we did also.. we could just leave the door open and they went in and out. They did such a great job.

Jade & family went to do a little last minute shopping and then headed home.

Here are some photos from their time here. Click photo for more.

After our nap we headed out to sunset beach. Mom really enjoyed herself even though she wasn't up to getting out. We later went to the cove and enjoyed the sunset.

click on the photo to see more.

Mom really was not feeling well and wanted to go home early.. but she woke up on Wednesday and said she was feeling better and wanted to stay until Friday.

The trip back to Washington was a very long one.. it seemed like we were never going to get home.

I think that I was just too tired to remember everything. I will post this for tonight and update you more tomorrow. Take care..

Deer at the beach.

The deer wandered out to see what everyone was doing in town... and everyone was freaking out to see them by the beach.. there were tourist taking pictures like crazy,

I hope you all had a great fourth of July.. it ended up getting cloudy but it was still beautiful to watch the fireworks. Robert worked all day trying to protect our city.. nothing earth shattering happened. They had a couple lost children but were able to reunite everyone quickly he said.

Mom had a rough day today.. but she did wake up to see the fireworks and loved them. She could see them through the window sitting on the couch so that was nice. There was a lovely cool breeze blowing through the windows. We are going to take mom out to Sunset Beach tomorrow, you are allowed to drive on the beach there.. .so we can get mom right up to the water.

Have a great day.

Today my nerves are a little rattled...probably from being tired and over heated. Mom fell again today.. this time when no one was in the room, and early today she was very sick. She told me she didn't care she was still going to the Coast so here we come. Please pray she will have a calm drive to my house.

Everyone has been asking about Bug... and he is here with me... he doesn't care too much for th hot hot heat.. but he does being able to go out and play in a fenced yard... the first picture is of him having a ice cream treat and he loved it, he even knew to eat the cone. The second picture is of Bug and Joey.. they are always running like crazy... then they crash like this. sooo cute.

Can you believe that another month is almost gone. Wow We did make it to 103 degrees.. I had forgotten what that felt like.. it was just too hot to be outside.. my sisters lawn man usually comes over in the after noon and mows her lawn.. needless to say...he came by and said it was just way too hot.. which we didn't blame him at all.

Mom ended up having a really rough night last night... she was so sick.. and this morning she wasn't feeling the greatest either. I think she really wanted to go to the ER last night.. but then she said she would wait a little while. She slept very well and later today she started perking up pretty good.. I hope she is still going to want to go home to Seaside with us.

I was sitting outside in Florence's back yard and it was 10pm and 85 degrees... and a slight breeze and I closed my eyes and memories came flooding back to me.. it was so sweet.. It felt like the hot nights we would have when we lived on W 21st in Kennewick. I remember Robert and I laying together in the hammock by the pool.. I loved that it felt so good to go back to that place even if it was only for a moment.

We are spending the night again at my sisters... but I think we will go home tomorrow late afternoon.. I think mom likes to be in her own house I know how that is when you don't feel good. I think that it will be a bit cooler starting Tuesday.

ok... really... enough...

Today is so hot that I have a headache... I am really tired.. I am getting sleep but maybe it isn't good sleep I don't know... but then it could be the heat also, since I have moved to the coast I just cant tolerate the heat so much anymore.

Mom is having a better day today... she has gotten around more but also sleeps a little more I suppose that can be the heat for her also. Her and I are going to go to my sister Florence's house to night.. where she has central AC.. I am sure we will sleep much better.

My sister Florence took mom over to see her husband today so I am going through clothes etc, to see what mom will take with her to the coast. The puppies.. mine and my sisters were running and playing now they are sound asleep I am sure the heat gets to them also.

Robert called me from Hillsboro to tell me his car was 106 when he got in it... and when he got to 60 mph it cooled to 103 he is thrilled to be heading back to the coast.

I hope everyone is doing well ... stay out of the heat drink LOTS of water.

Checking in...

First thank you to everyone for the wonderful notes and prayers and emails.. I am sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner.. it has been very busy since I arrived in Washington. To those of you asking... you do NOT have to join anything to leave a comment... and ignore the url thing when you sign in under your name.. you can put your name or not.. do what ever is easiest.

When I first arrived here my mother and her husband were in the hospital together... but in separate rooms... and they didn't know each other were there. If we would have told her husband he would have called her room non stop, and she was too sick. My siblings were running back and forth from room to room. The Dr. was awesome, he did everything to make things easier on everyone.

I have no concept of what happened when... the days kind of blend into one another. I slept at the hospital for 3 or 4 nights... 3 of them in a chair... not comfortable... the 3rd or 4th night they found a little couch bed thing.. (lol sorry) I don't know what to call it. I was a little afraid to go to sleep laying down because I knew I would go into a deeper sleep, sure enough... I went to sleep and mother got up at 3am and decided to go to the bathroom all by her self with tubes and all.. and.... she fell... all heck broke loose... I flew up off the cot... and three nurses came running.. yikes... needless to say the next day she was a bruised mess.

Also while she was in there her husband was released from the hospital and taken to Hospice House.. they did get to be together for a couple of hours before he left.

She was finally were released to go home and mother really was feeling pretty good... she insisted in going out to the back yard the next day... everything went well until it was time to come in... she lost her balance and pushed me back and I was trying to hang on to her.. thank GOD I am packing a few extra pounds... I twisted so she would not hit her head on the cement... and metal pipe she was heading for... so I hit my arms and my ribs. I am fine.. a bit bruised... after the shock of it all and we settled down and my brother Mike came out to pick us both up off the ground it was quite comical in a sad way.

She has good days and bad days... but over all better than I thought... she wanted to go see her husband a couple of days ago so my sister and I took her.. we put her in the car and she said she wanted to do it herself.. my sister and I were talking and we looked over and there was mother lying on the driveway where she just fallen out of the car.. NOT AGAIN.. I told her she wasn't leaving our side... she just wasn't stable enough. Roberts mother loaned us her walker and mom moaned and whined about it forever.. and I told her it would make her feel more secure... well finally she saw that it did and she is doing so well with it. I know she truly hates feeling like she can not take care of her self.

She made the Dr. tell her how long she had and he told her that it could be a month maybe two. She is telling everyone a year or two... I don't know if she is doing that on purpose or is confused... but I asked her what she thinks he said and she told me a month.. so I am not sure what that was about. We did talk about her proving them wrong.. I pray about it.

All of my siblings have been wonderful, everyone is a little stressed and doing as well as they can. Everyone is trying to go to Hospice and see her husband and see her so needless to say they are tired. Both my sisters and I took mom out for Chinese food yesterday and she really enjoyed that very much .. her real first outing.

Today was her husbands 80th birthday so everyone went over and took balloons and cake and cupcakes and Hospice also got him a cake and balloons. Mother really had a rough start to the day so her Dr appt and all the running around we did kicked her butt so we had to leave after a hour and a half .. and it doesn't help that it is 400 degrees here... lol.. no joke... I am melting. Mother who is always cold (like you Phyllis) told me she was actually hot today. Pray we get relief from the weather this weekend.. it is going to be 106. I might have to jump in the Columbia River.

My sister was scheduled to come to my home in Seaside for a week.. and the fact that I am here we weren't sure what was going to happen... but Mom said she really would like to go to Seaside... so we asked my brother what he thought and her Dr.. and he said go for it. So now it will be my two sisters my brother in law...my niece and my mom... and then I received a phone call from my son and his wife and they said they want to come down... we said ok,.. the more the merrier.

My mothers Brothers and Sister were here and that was nice... she really enjoyed their visits.

I am missing my Hubby... and Seaside.. and do I ever appreciate it and the non 100 degree weather.

Thank you so much for all the love you are sending our way.

This is a photo I took of mom and her baby Angel... they missed each other so much.. The hospital told us to bring her to mom in her room.. but mom was excited to get outside so they had a great visit in the garden of the hospital.

I had to show you the Hydrangeas that Roberts sister Myra sent to my mom.. Robert and I actually planted these in our back yard... and She and her hubby bought our house from us when we left Washington... very cool.

First Quilt Class...

I thought I would show you what I had done from my first class.. we didnt have time to finish it.. all it needs is too finish quilting the top and do the binding. I am trying to decide if I wanted a snazzy new sewing machine or if I am going to just order a walking foot so I can finish the quilting of the top... still out for debate.. I really enjoyed the class, and we have started on our next one.

I have some cute bowling pictures that I will post tomorrow.

October 28, 2007

whooooaaaaa.. it has been awhile hasn't it...

where to start... needless to say, we both have been so busy. I worked almost everyday in the month of October.. I am really worn out, Robert and I had a totally do NOTHING weekend.. ok ok... well almost.. Robert was called out for 4 hours... the call was a bomb going off in a car... when the call came in it was a fire... the fire department showed up people all around said the sound was so loud people came out from several stores.. they said something blew then a window blew out.. then another large whoosh....another one went off.. but this one was was not loud. They looked around and saw something long with a wire hanging out of it.. and they called the bomb squad. We had to have one flown in.. tied up peoples businesses and cars for several hours. long story short... some battery pack in the car blew up... some tourist said there is a dog in the car... the poor thing was hiding in the back seat on the floor.. it was van. I am so thankful it was not worse... and that the people were out of the car when it happened.. they had a baby in the car and they had barely been out of the car when this happened.

So that was when we decided since it messed up our plans for the day we decided we would stay home.

Today we finally got our Halloween blowups out.. better late than never. Robert loves it.. it is a little harder for me to get into it because we don't have any babies near to see them. But once we did it.. I loved them as usual.

Robert went home to the Tri-Cities for a friends retired celebration from the Kennewick PD. I didn't get to go because I was contracted for a event... dang it. I have tried and tried to get some help for times like this.. everyone wants to work.. but when it comes down to it they are busy.. or they want medical benefits.. hello this is a small coffee cart... on the other end.. I have had three people tell me they would buy the coffee cart if I wanted to let it go.

We have worked the coffee cart so much this month.. Robert helped me out several times.. Phyllis came and helped me also. I did get a new price list/sign made... very happy for being the first time I designed one.

Robert has been working almost every night on the Rotary Auction, he had firearms training in the pouring rain.

Tonight was so cute... Corbin called me on the phone and was telling me all about his shopping trip he was on. It was too cute, just talked and talked.

When Robert was on the Bomb call.. I walked down and took pictures.. and Bug and I went shopping.. we bought him two little outfits.. the plain but very cute one was from a new doggie store in town.. the second one was from a craft fair I went by.

We are going to the Rotary Auction and then we are going to Seattle to COFFEFEST... woohooo we are excited to go.

Our plans to go to California were changed so I guess we are going to have to find something else to do. We really need a real vacation so any ideas.

My grandson Andrew went to prom ... yikes he is too young no way. *grin*

I have finally been able to start a quilting class again after wow.. I think years. I am really enjoying it, the teacher picked the colors.. it will be nice for this time of year... I will have to keep it since it is my first one. I will probably put it on the back of the couch.

Well Blogger is being naughty tonight.. it would not let me put my pictures where I wanted so I just added another slide show.

Robert's Birthday

paper from Bren Boone - alpha Doris Castle

October 06, 2007

My sister sent this to me today...

I thought it was pretty cute... all tho some of it was before my time.. *grin*

I do love most of our advances we have now.. but some of this is sadly true today. ie: We sue everyone for anything... and we aren't responsible for our own lives. How can we have a functional family when all we hear is how dysfunctional we are.

Black and White
(Under age 40? You won't understand.)

You could hardly see for all the snow,

Spread the rabbit ears as far as they go.

Pull a chair up to the TV set,

"Good Night, David. Good Night, Chet."

My Mom used to cut chicken, chop eggs and spread mayo on the same cutting board with the same knife and no bleach, but we didn't seem to get food poisoning.

My Mom used to defrost hamburger on the counter AND I used to eat it raw sometimes, too. Our school sandwiches were wrapped in wax paper in a brown paper bag, not in icepack coolers, but I can't remember getting e.coli

Almost all of us would have rather gone swimming in the lake instead of a pristine pool (talk about boring), no beach closures then.

The term cell phone would have conjured up a phone in a jail cell, and a pager was the school PA system.

We all took gym, not PE.. an d risked permanent injury with a pair of high top Ked's (only worn in gym) instead of having cross-training athletic shoes with air cushion soles and built in light reflectors. I can't recall any injuries but they must have
happened because they tell us how much safer we are now.

Flunking gym was not an option.. even for stupid kids! I guess PE must be much harder than gym.

Speaking of school, we all said prayers and sang the national anthem, and staying in detention after school caught all sorts of negative attention.

We must have e had horribly damaged psyches. What an archaic health system we had then. Remember school nurses? Ours wore a hat and everything.

I thought that I was supposed to accomplish something before I was allowed to be proud of myself.

I just can't recall how bored we were without computers, Play Station,Nintendo, X-box or 270 digital TV cable stations.

Oh yeah... and where was the Benadryl and sterilization kit when I got that bee sting? I could have been killed!

We played 'king of the hill' on piles of gravel left on vacant construction sites, and when we got hurt, Mom pulled out the 48-cent bottle of Mercurochrome (kids liked it better because it didn't sting like iodine did)and then we got our butt spanked.

Now it's a trip to the emergency room, followed by a 10-day dose of a $49 bottle of antibiotics, and then Mom calls the attorney to sue the contractor for leaving a horribly vicious pile of gravel where it was such a threat.

We didn't act up at the neighbor's house either because if we did, we got our butt spanked there and then we got butt spanked again when we got home.

I recall Donny Reynolds from next door coming over and doing his tricks on the front stoop , just before he fell off. Little did his Mom know that she could have owned our house. Instead, she picked him up and swatted him for being such a goof It was a neighborhood run amuck.

To top it off, not a single person I knew had ever been told that they were from a dysfunctional family. How could we possibly have known that? We needed to get into group therapy and anger management classes? We were obviously so duped by so many societal ills, that we didn't even notice that the entire country wasn't taking Prozac! How did we ever survive?

LOVE TO ALL OF US WHO SHARED THIS ERA, AND TO ALL WHO DIDN'T- SORRY FOR WHAT YOU MISSED. I WOULDN'T TRADE IT F OR ANYTHING

Pass this to someone and remember that life's most simple pleasures are very often the best.

Have a great restful weekend.

WOW... 85 degrees at the beach!

What a fabulous day today... it was 85 degrees... Deb and the boys called and said they were heading down Saturday afternoon, they got here and we took off and went to the car show... I am sorry pictures are a jumble you need to just scroll down and you will see them. Everyone enjoyed the car show..

Sunday we went to tour a boat that came into Astoria and maybe take a ride on it.. HAH!! we got there and that thing was rocking so bad no one wanted to go out on the ocean in it.. but they did take a tour and the tour guide was so awesome explaining everything to the boys. We were there for quite sometime.. after we were done...we took pictures by the coast card museum and then walked down to where the seals were at... we were amazed at how many there were and how they were right up on the docks.. the boys thought they were pretty awesome.... it was sooo warm by the time we were through... we headed to the Astoria Starbucks for iced drinks.. woohooo and something to eat. Robert took one of the beach access roads in Gearhart and we drove down the beach almost to Seaside, there were so many people out...horses, surfers, jet skis, dogs, lol everyone was enjoying the heat. I cant believe that it is going to be 87 degrees tomorrow (Monday) woooohooo beach time again.
